DJ Theo

Long Island's DJ Theo is one of the few in the trade with enough versatility to love the club and — gasp! — the radio. In fact he's passionate about both. Fiery, even. "I always thought dance music didn't get the kind of respect where people could talk about it on the air," Theo recalls.

He set out to fix that at an early age by bringing dance music to broader audiences. As a student at Bryant College in Rhode Island, he stormed the school station's airwaves with the latest cuts from Eighties and Nineties crossover acts like Depeche Mode, New Order, and Nine Inch Nails. Eventually he wound up on the influential Long Island station Party 105, first as a mix show coordinator for Vic Latino, and eventually as the host of his own show. What's more, he'll be branching out to satellite in the coming months, with a Thursday-night mix show on XM's BPM channel.

Still the clubs remain his testing ground for the next big sounds. During the past 13 summers, he has captained the Hamptons hotspot Neptune with boldface-name-packed nights that have included his own pumping electro-house sets. The rest of the year, he spins around Long Island and New York City at legendary venues such as Pacha. His mix CDs, NYC MIXX (UBL Records) and Summer Clubbing (Nervous), have been famous for selling out faster than area stores can restock them. Expect the same kind of high energy during Theo's appearances at Nervous Records' two WMC parties.
